Fall is finally here and I hope you’re all almost as excited as I am. The cool fall breeze on your skin, warm apple, cinnamon, and pumpkin flavors, the beautiful, bright colors of the leaves, and (my personal favorite) fall clothes. Whether you’re curled up on the couch with a hot chocolate, out enjoying the fall festivities, or headed into the office for another day of work, nothing is cuter or comfier than fuzzy socks, layers, flannels, and scarves.

If you don’t agree with me and you’re having a little trouble selecting the perfect fall, business-appropriate ensemble each morning, maybe some of these tips can help you out. Hopefully, they’ll allow you to spend a little less time each morning choosing an outfit and a little more time stopping for coffee on your way into the office.

Women’s Fall Business Attire

I understand why this process can be difficult. This season’s attire is all about cute and comfy, but how are you supposed to make business attire comfortable? Nothing can compare to your sweatpants, fuzzy socks, and a blanket, but workplace attire doesn’t have to be as dreadful as you’re making it out to be. Match your outfits to the season by remembering these simple tips.

  • It’s time to bring out the layers and blazers, cardigans and sweaters. You can always remove layers if your office is a little warm, but once you step into that cool fall air, you’ll regret not bringing a light jacket, cardigan, or blazer to slip over your sheer blouse.

  • I know that everyone loves the diverse, fun, warm floral patterns. But, floral is meant for spring and summer, not fall, so let’s slide these items to the back of your closet for now.

  • Mix in some fall colors like olive green, burnt orange, and burgundy to compliment your neutral colors such as beige, black, navy blue, gray, and white.

  • Sandals are definitely out of season. Which means it’s time for booties! You can also go for boots or any closed-toed shoes as well.

  • Of course, accessories are never out of season, so don’t forget your statement necklace, earrings, or bracelet. But, don’t overdo it. The office is a place for subtle jewelry and accessories. This is also the perfect time to add a scarf or hat to your outfit as an accessory as well; which can be easily removed once you step into your office cubicle.

Men’s Fall Business Attire

I understand that men have far fewer options when it comes to business attire, however, there’s still plenty of room to incorporate seasonal items that are sure to make you stand out at the conference table.

  • Similarly to the women’s color tips, mix your darker and neutral colors with fall colors (i.e. olive green, burnt orange, and burgundy).

  • Always remember your accessories. A watch and leather belt will complete your look.

  • This is the time to add layers. You’re no stranger to finishing your workplace look with a clean cut blazer. This season is no different. But now you won’t be sweating the second you walk outside (there’s a positive). Also, consider pairing a button-up, collared shirt under a sweater.

Look your best this fall both in and out of the office. Strut down those hallways lined with cubicles and turn heads with you elegant, seasonal style. There’s no reason that business attire shouldn’t be stylish and at least a little bit comfortable. After all, the clothes are the best part of fall (in my opinion).
